my mom grows several different types of onions, shallots and chives. they do really well where she lives (southern calif) and she's always going to the backyard to get something to garnish the meals.
everytime i visit, she has more growing back there. it surprised me one summer when she planted a few lemon and orange dwarf trees. the 'orchard' is just amazing now - she serves fresh lemonade and orange juice year-round.
Sounds good- Much grows well in Southern California. I have a real nice chive plant that I have not used in a long time. The other day I was thinking of cutting it back and letting new growth spring up. I will have to look for a new use for chives.

send it to my mom! she uses chive every freakin' day .. it's in salad, soup, stir-frys, anything that's not deemed dessert gets it.
