Catch-22
Mquest Jr. has chapped lips mostly because he likes to chew on his lips. Chapstick and lip balm only make him chew on them more. Oh well.
Wake the flood-
For those of you keeping track of Mquest Jr's lack of speaking--
At almost three years of age his vocabulary has exploded and seems to be around the correct amount of words. He has mastered the two word sentence and is quickly forming three word sentences. His use of verbs is a bit delayed and he is slightly behind on the verb curve. He is having trouble with his L's and N's which is not surprising and normal. N is a three year skill and he is ahead of the curve for other development of speech sounds.

The high lonesome sound
Last weekend our city had a huge train fair. Here are just a few of the few thousand pictures I took. (the dalmatian is real)
The Hat
Until today I never realized how hard it is to take pictures of children that are wearing baseball caps. Shadows across the eyes. Bright spots on the chin. The bill covering the eyes. One must get pretty low to the ground and shot up. All and all it must be worth it-- I really like this shot. Of course the hat has a practical purpose of keeping the sun from doing terrible damage to my sons fair skin.
Where will it end?
Is Thomas the Tank Engine a gateway drug? Will my son be destined to grow up and join train society's? Will he spend his golden years volunteering in a train museum cursing the day he first met Thomas?
Men and their toys-
They had a few million toy train sets up and running. Everyone one was standing next to their sets beaming with pride. If I had more free time I would of stuck around and took pictures all day. I was having problems with the lighting. It was rather cloudy and overcast and all the trains were under tents. I did not want to use the flash but the trains were moving a bit to fast for longer exposure times.
Playground ethics
Most of life's lessons are first taught on the playground. It makes me wonder if the current world leaders learned anything while on the playground. If you can not play well with others by the time you leave school you are destined to grow up to be a horrible citizen of the planet.

Goodnight
I think I might be getting sick. I am going to go to bed early and try to escape getting sicker.
Goodnight.
Goodnight.
Small field of Nasturtiums
I have some seeds at home. I think I should plant a few. The flowers taste a lot like radish.

California Poppy-
The California state flower. The wind was blowing and It took me a while to get a good shot without the flower blowing out of the frame. A few weeks back in one of the semi-local high desert communities had whole hillsides of these flowers came into bloom at the same moment in time. It would have been a great photo opportunity-- But, I missed it.

Trip to the beach-
Last Sunday we took off to the beach. Highlights of the trip as seen through a child eyes were breakfast with a view, boats, ducks, water, rocks and throwing rocks in to the water.
Baba's with grandchild-
Two generations sharing the same simple joy.
I really like this photo- It tells a great story of how the day went.

Quality Control
Resubmitting a rock to the gods of the ocean for another million years of polishing.
Throwing stones-
If one can not find a glass house any body of water will be perfect for throwing stones.
Age
Mquest Jr is fast approaching the 3 year mark. This picture makes him look older than he really is. It is crazy how fast they grow up.
Fun Beach Day
Mquest Jr took the hat right off Grandpa. This is probably the best picture I took all day. I think I might just get it printed, enlarge it and frame it.
Baba's and Mquest Jr.
I have no idea how Grandma and Grandma got named Baba's but that is what we call them. In this picture the elder teaches the wisdom of looking for rocks. Most children look for and find great joy in rocks. However, I think my family may have a genetic predisposition for playing with rocks.
Todays thought-
Sea shells are thing of great beauty. They catch out imagination and are works of art.
But, snail shells do not bring the same joy to people. Meditate on that.

grass
Over the last few years the use of grasses as a design motif has exploded. I like the form, color and texture of this one.
view
We showed up at the restaurant before the morning crowds hit the area. We were able to get a nice table with a view of the harbor. By the time breakfast was over the window had several large smudges on it. The food was pretty good.

Trains, Trains and more Trains-
Irvine Park this train is for the children to ride. Mquest Jr. could ride this train all day long.
Riding the rails
The ride around the park is remarkable. We saw a peacock but the single picture I took of it from the moving train was not a good picture. I like this picture.
Rail Road Crossing-
I worked hard to get this picture. I took several shots from different angles to get this one. My son loves rail road crossings. When we travel around town he is scanning the horizon for all things train. He sits in his car seat reciting all that he sees.
Box car, flat car, hopper car, caboose . . . recently he has moved on to âRail Road Sign.â The sight of one is pure joy. I think I will put this up as a desktop wallpaper.

Jealous
His wife gets jealous every time his eleven year old daughter visits.
Perhaps he should not of married a 19 year old girl.
Perhaps he should not of married a 19 year old girl.
Stupid company-
If you are willing to train and your only requirement is a college degree in anything – Why did I have to take an intense and impossible 2 ½ hour math test? (I failed)
Large leaf basil-
Something at night is eating this plant. (some type of leaf hopper is my guess) Soap and water is barely helping. The health of this plant has deteriorated greatly since the taking of the photo. I may have to invest in a store bought insecticidal soap.
Basil
Basil- This is a small leaf basil. Very tasty. It seems to want to flower at a moments notice. Even with my pizza herb obsession and constant care I am having a hard time keeping this plant from flowering. Highly prolific.

Oregano
Oregano- Often referred to as "the pizza herb." I bought him a few weeks back and he has grown nicely. I put him in a 6 inch pot. I know I should of gone larger but I could not resist. I have already used this little guy enough to make my money back on its purchase. Until I wrote this, I had no idea that he was a he.
legs
This plant came with the house. As a shade plant it does not get enough sun to look good. If I pulled back the camera and took a picture one would see a unattractive, tall and leggy plant. I am going to work on getting a little more light to this plant. I just love the flowers on it.

Hibiscus
This is the dogs favorite flower. My dog can eat Hibiscus flowers all day long. Luckily this plant is prolific enough to flower almost all year.
The hibiscus plant that this yellow flower comes from is three feet wide 8 feet tall and about 10 feet long. I am getting ready to prune it back and attempt to shape it into a covered living "patio" area. (almost like a cresting wave) I started on this last year and it takes more maintenance than I like to put into a silly project. This plant has grown so much since its last pruning that this pruning will have to be a drastic hack job.

Rose in a blender
This is my favorite Rose. I have long forgotten the name of it. It looks as if the artist has splashed his white canvas with red paint.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Friday night we went to the movie theater to watch Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. The movie was not that bad. (not great) They put in enough quirky stuff and stylized effects to give the overall flavor of the books. However the movie was not quirky enough to turn the movie into an instant cult classic.
As always with movies- this movie falls short of books it came from.
Watch the movie if you must. Read the books. They are classic must reads.
